Major Gambling Jurisdiction Body In Malta Undergoes Name Change
More than any other, there are two locations in the world that stand out when it comes to online gambling and its associated game development, production and promotion – Gibraltar and Malta.
The two locations feature gambling laws and regulations that are sympathetic to the causes of online casino operators, and the games developers that fill the aforementioned casinos with their offerings and products.
In recent times more and more online casinos and games developers have been either opening satellite branches in either one of these two locations, or moving their operations there in their entirety.
As such when either Gibraltar’s or Malta’s regulatory bodies make some kind of noise, everybody notices and stands up and listens.
Malta And Gaming
The Mediterranean island of Malta first introduced specific regulation in regards to online gaming and gambling back in 2001.
The initial regulations were implemented to not only bring some sense of order and cohesion to the burgeoning online gaming industry, but also to act as a unifying and protective code under which all operators could exist and function together in a stable and safe environment.
As of today Malta is thought to be home to over 20 games studios and over 400 game makers; with mega players in the games industry such as Amaya Gaming, Net Entertainment, NYX, Play’n Go and Yggdrasil Gaming just some of those that can be found present on the island.
Name Change And More
The regulatory body that was previously known as The Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) of Malta has now changed its name to the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA).
And it is not only the name that has changed, as the regulatory body has also rebranded itself with a new logo and a new website in an effort to better communicate its message and improve working relations with the international gaming community that now calls Malta its home.
These changes were deemed necessary by the authorities in Malta in order to remain relevant and fully existent and intertwined in a working environment that is forever changing.
